Spotlight: Ernest Zacharevic

Ernest Zacharevic is a Lithuanian artist living in Penang. As part of George Town promoting itself, they commissioned him to liven up the streets with pieces of street art showing the vibrance and personality of the city in a project called Mirrors George Town. Most of the art pieces are half-painting, half-sculpture, and they are absolutely brilliantly done. Here are some of my favourites.

Lithuanian street art - who knew?

Who would have known that Lithuanians would be everywhere even in a place like that! That is quite the street art, and seeing the one with basketball gives the slightest hint of a Lithuanian connection! When you wrote his surname, that would be an abbreviation for Zakarevicius. Wondering if he is an American Lithuanian since many would simplify their names to simplify things and fit in!

Am enjoying the readings, and glad you wrote since the Mayan rumour is that today is the end of the world so you better have a drink!!

Without doing too much research the most I can tell you is that he grew up in Lithuania and went to and arts school in Vilnius, then went to London for university before travelling in Southeast Asia and ending up staying in Malaysia.
